Guitar Tonewoods for Luthiers

Bog Oak also known as Fenland Black Oak

The Bog Oak musical instrument components we stock are cut from the Blackest most even coloured stocks available, which we believe are the best examples of this
Extraordinarily rare species.

With significantly higher density and hardness than ordinary oak,
Bog Oak typically has 35-40 annular growth rings per inch.

When carbon dated, Bog Oak from this source was found to be 5300 years old, many of the trees in these prehistoric forests were already hundreds of years old when they fell into the fenland peat bogs.

Expertly kiln dried (the process taking almost a year) after being cut exactly on the quarter to reveal its stunningly beautiful Medullary rays. Bog Oak's natural density and hardness makes a fantastically crisp and responsive instrument.
